Kathleen Coyle

Nata a Derry (1886-1952), da giovane si trasferì con la madre e un fratello a Liverpool. Dopo aver viaggiato in Belgio e in Francia, si trasferisce a Dublino e prende parte al movimento per il suffragio femminile. Pubblica 13 romanzi, tra cui i più noti sono i due volumi in cui racconta l’infanzia a Derry.

George Farquhar
Targa commemorativa
Il drammaturgo irlandese, autore delle opere La coppia fedele (1699) e L’ufficiale reclutatore (1706), nacque a Derry nel 1677. La targa, inaugurata il 24 agosto 2009, recita: “George Farquhar, c. 1677-1707, playwright, attended the Free School near this site”. Qui si trovava infatti la scuola dove il drammaturgò studiò prima di frequentare il Trinity College a Dublino. La Free Grammar School fu fondata nel 1617 ed è una delle scuole più antiche del Regno Unito che ancora esiste col nome di “Foyle College” (la nuova sede si trova in Duncreggan Road).
